Bible Setting: Zechariah 1–14
Zechariah lived at the same time as Haggai, after God’s people returned from exile and began rebuilding Jerusalem. The work was hard, the people were tired, and some wondered if God was still with them. God chose Zechariah to encourage them with messages full of hope, comfort, and future promises.
God gave Zechariah many visions—powerful pictures that helped the people understand what God was doing. In one vision, Zechariah saw a man measuring Jerusalem, showing that God would protect and grow the city again. In another, he saw Joshua the high priest being cleansed from filthy clothes, symbolizing how God would forgive and restore His people.
Zechariah also saw a golden lampstand, flying scrolls, horses, and a beautiful picture of peace, all pointing to God’s promise to make things right. Over and over, God reminded His people, “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit.” It wasn’t their strength that would save them—it was God’s.
Most importantly, Zechariah pointed to the coming of the Messiah, the humble King who would ride into Jerusalem on a donkey and bring peace to the world.
Zechariah teaches kids that God keeps His promises, even when we can’t see how. He shows that God watches over His people, restores what is broken, and brings hope to every moment of fear or doubt.
Zechariah represents hope, restoration, and God’s powerful guidance. When kids hear his story, they learn that victory comes from trusting God’s Spirit—not their own strength.
