THE WIDOW’S OIL — When God Filled Every Empty Jar

Bible Setting: 2 Kings 4:1–7

During the days of the prophet Elisha, there was a poor widow who was in great trouble. Her husband had died, and she had no money left to care for her family. A creditor came and threatened to take her two sons as servants if she couldn’t pay her debt. With fear in her heart, she ran to Elisha and cried, asking for help.

Elisha asked her a simple question: “What do you have in your house?”She answered, “Nothing… except a small jar of oil.”It didn’t seem like much, but God can do amazing things with just a little.

Elisha told her to borrow as many empty jars as she could from her neighbors—big ones, small ones, every jar she could find. Then he told her to go inside her house, close the door, and start pouring her tiny bit of oil into the empty jars.

So she did.

As she poured, something incredible happened—the oil did not run out! Jar after jar filled up completely. Every single container overflowed until there were no jars left. When she told Elisha, he said, “Sell the oil, pay your debt, and live on the rest.” God had provided more than enough.

The Widow’s Oil teaches kids that God cares about our needs and can turn little things into big miracles. When we trust Him, He fills the empty places in our lives with His goodness.

In The Good Fight card game, The Widow’s Oil represents God’s provision, compassion, and overflowing blessings. When kids draw this card, they learn that even when we feel empty, God can fill us with more than we expect.
