THE COMING MESSIAH — The Promise at the Heart of the Record

Scripture Setting: 1 Nephi 10–11; 2 Nephi 25; Jacob 4; Mosiah 3; Alma 7

From the very beginning of the Book of Mormon, one message rises above every prophecy, every sermon, and every record kept by ancient hands: the Messiah would come. Long before Christ was born in Bethlehem, prophets in the promised land spoke of Him with clarity and power, describing His life, His mission, and His love.

Lehi taught his children that the Redeemer would rise with healing in His wings. Nephi saw His birth, His ministry, His baptism, and even the symbols of His crucifixion. Jacob testified that all prophets since the world began pointed to Jesus Christ. King Benjamin declared His name generations before Mary heard it from an angel. Alma taught that the Savior would suffer every pain and temptation so He could know how to help His people perfectly.

For these ancient families, the coming Messiah wasn’t a distant idea. It was the anchor of their hope—their reason to repent, their strength in trials, and the foundation of every covenant they made.

For families today, these prophecies remind us that Christ’s mission was known, planned, and promised from the beginning. His love reaches across centuries to lift each of us personally.
