Bible Setting: Exodus 3–4
Moses was watching his father-in-law’s sheep in the quiet wilderness near Mount Horeb. It was an ordinary day—until he saw something extraordinary. A bush was on fire, but it wasn’t burning up! The flames didn’t spread, and the branches didn’t turn to ash. Moses went closer, amazed by the strange sight.
Then God spoke to him from the fire.
“Moses, Moses… Take off your sandals, for this is holy ground.”
Moses covered his face because he knew he was standing in the presence of the living God.
God told Moses that He had heard the cries of the Israelites in Egypt. They were suffering under harsh slavery, and God was ready to rescue them. He chose Moses to go to Pharaoh and lead His people out of Egypt. Moses felt afraid and unsure. He wondered if he was the right person. He asked, “What if they don’t believe me?” and “Who am I to do this?”
But God promised to be with him. He gave Moses signs—a staff that turned into a snake, a hand that became leprous and was healed again—and even told him His sacred name: “I AM WHO I AM.” With God’s help, Moses found the courage to return to Egypt and begin the great work of freeing God’s people.
The Burning Bush teaches kids that God calls ordinary people to do extraordinary things. He is patient with our fears and promises to be with us every step of the way.
In The Good Fight card game, the Burning Bush represents God’s calling, courage, and holy guidance. When kids draw this card, they learn that God speaks, leads, and equips everyone who chooses to follow Him.
