STOP THE SUN — When God Held the Day Still for Joshua

Bible Setting: Joshua 10:1–15

After entering the Promised Land, Joshua and the Israelites helped protect the people of Gibeon from five enemy kings who attacked them. Joshua’s army marched all night to surprise the enemies at dawn. God fought for Israel—sending confusion into the enemy camp and even dropping large hailstones from the sky that defeated many of the attackers.

But the battle wasn’t finished yet, and daylight was running out. Joshua didn’t want the enemies to escape into the darkness. So Joshua prayed a bold and amazing prayer:“Sun, stand still!”And God answered.

The sun stopped moving across the sky, and the moon paused as well. Daylight stayed longer than normal, giving Joshua and his army all the time they needed. The Bible says there has never been another day like it—when God listened to a human request in such a dramatic way.

God showed His people that He is in control of the whole universe. Nothing is too big for Him—not armies, not storms, not even the movement of the sun and moon. Joshua’s trust and courage helped the Israelites win a victory they could never have achieved on their own.

Stop the Sun teaches kids that God hears bold prayers and has the power to do incredible things. When we follow God with courage and faith, He fights battles we could never win alone.
