Bible Setting: 1 Kings 1–11; 2 Chronicles 1–9
Solomon was the son of King David and became king of Israel when he was still young. One night, God appeared to Solomon in a dream and told him he could ask for anything. Solomon didn’t ask for money, power, or victory over enemies.
Instead, he said,
“Give me wisdom to lead Your people.”
God was pleased with Solomon’s humble request. He gave Solomon great wisdom—more than anyone who had ever lived. People from faraway lands traveled just to hear him speak. Solomon wrote many proverbs, taught about nature, and helped solve difficult problems.
One famous story tells of two women arguing over a baby. Solomon used wisdom to discover who the real mother was, and everyone saw that God had given him amazing insight.
Solomon also built the Temple in Jerusalem, a beautiful place where the people worshiped God. When the temple was finished, God’s glory filled it like a shining cloud.
But later in his life, Solomon made some poor choices. He married many foreign wives who worshiped idols, and he allowed their false gods into the land. Solomon’s heart became divided, and this brought trouble to Israel after his reign. Even wise people can fall when they stop listening to God.
Solomon teaches kids that wisdom begins with following God. Asking God for help, staying humble, and obeying His teachings keeps our hearts strong and our paths steady.
In The Good Fight card game, Solomon represents wisdom, leadership, and the importance of guarding your heart. When kids play his card, they discover that true wisdom is choosing God’s way every day.
