Sariah - Book of Mormon Story

Scripture Setting: 1 Nephi 2–5, Book of Mormon

Before the camps in the wilderness, before the brass plates, before the ocean voyage that would shape a new civilization, there was Sariah—a mother following her husband into the unknown.

Her story begins in Jerusalem, where she lived a comfortable life as the wife of a respected man, Lehi. She had her home, her friends, her routines—everything familiar. Then the Lord called Lehi to warn the people, and soon after, to flee for their safety. For Sariah, this meant loading what she could carry, leaving behind what she could not, and stepping into a wilderness that offered no guarantees.

Scripture doesn’t give us long speeches from Sariah, but it does give us moments—moments that feel incredibly real. When her sons are gone for many days retrieving the brass plates, fear presses in. She worries. She cries. She even questions whether this journey is truly from God. Any parent can relate to that kind of fear.

But when her sons return safely, Sariah’s heart steadies. She declares with conviction that she now knows the Lord is guiding them. Her faith becomes a foundation, not only for her family but for the generations who come after.

Around family scripture time, Sariah’s story opens gentle conversations about courage in everyday life, the strength of mothers, and trusting God through worry and uncertainty.

Lehi and Sariah Trading Card - Book of Mormon

In Rumors of War, Sariah’s card carries this quiet, powerful resilience. Drawing her reminds players that behind every great journey is someone who chooses faith—one day, one step, and sometimes one prayer—at a time.
