Bible Setting: Ruth 1–4
Ruth lived during the time of the judges, when life in Israel was difficult and uncertain. She wasn’t an Israelite—she was from the land of Moab. Ruth married into an Israelite family, and when her husband died, she faced a choice. She could return to her old home and start over, or she could stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi, who had lost everything.
Ruth didn’t choose the easy path. She chose the loving one. She told Naomi, “Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.” Ruth showed incredible kindness, staying by Naomi’s side and helping her survive. She gathered leftover grain in the fields to provide food, working hard each day.
One of the field owners, Boaz, noticed Ruth’s gentleness and courage. He protected her, treated her kindly, and made sure she had enough to eat. Later, Boaz married Ruth, and together they became part of God’s special plan. Ruth became the great-grandmother of King David—and part of the family line that would one day lead to Jesus.
Ruth teaches kids that love, kindness, and loyalty can change everything. She wasn’t the strongest or the most powerful—but her gentle heart made her one of the greatest heroes of the Bible.
In The Good Fight card game, Ruth represents kindness that leads to blessing. When kids play her card, they learn that choosing to be loyal, helpful, and loving brings strength and peace to every battle they face.
