Bible Setting: Obadiah 1
Obadiah wrote the shortest book in the Old Testament, but his message was powerful. His prophecy was directed toward the people of Edom, a nation descended from Esau. For many years, the Edomites had treated the people of Israel—Esau’s brother Jacob’s family—with pride, anger, and cruelty. Instead of helping Israel in times of trouble, Edom often stood by, laughed, or even joined in hurting them.
God sent Obadiah to warn the Edomites that their pride and unkindness would bring consequences. They felt safe in their rocky mountain cities, believing no one could touch them. But Obadiah explained that God sees everything—and no amount of height, strength, or hiding can protect a nation that chooses cruelty over compassion.
Obadiah also brought hope for Israel. He promised that God would restore His people, bring justice, and create a future where wrongs would be made right. Even though Obadiah’s message was serious, it reminded God’s people that He watches over them and will defend them.
Obadiah teaches kids that pride and bullying always lead to trouble, but kindness and humility bring peace. His story shows that God cares deeply about how we treat others and that He defends those who are mistreated.
Obadiah represents justice, humility, and God’s protection. When kids hear his story, they learn that choosing kindness over pride brings strength and honor.
