Bible Setting: Nahum 1–3
Nahum lived long after the prophet Jonah. Years earlier, the people of Nineveh had listened to Jonah’s warning and repented. But over time, they returned to their wicked ways. Nineveh became a violent, cruel city once again—hurting others, worshiping idols, and ignoring God.
God sent Nahum with a message: God had seen everything, and He would bring justice to Nineveh. This wasn’t just anger—God had been patient for many years, giving them chances to change. But Nineveh chose evil again and again. Nahum explained that God is slow to anger, but He is also a righteous judge who will not ignore wickedness forever.
Nahum’s words reminded God’s people that He is both powerful and good. He protects those who trust in Him and defeats those who harm the innocent. Nahum described God as a strong refuge, saying, “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble.” Even though Nahum’s message warned of destruction for Nineveh, it brought comfort to Israel. They knew that God was watching over them and would defend them.
Nahum teaches kids that God sees both good and evil, and He cares deeply about justice. He shows that God protects those who trust Him and brings down those who choose cruelty.
Nahum represents justice, protection, and God’s righteous power. When kids hear his story, they learn that God is a strong defender and that choosing good over evil always matters.
