Bible Setting: Esther 1–10
Mordecai was a Jewish man living in the kingdom of Persia. When his cousin Esther lost her parents, Mordecai lovingly took her in and raised her as his own daughter. He taught her to be kind, brave, and wise—all qualities God would later use in an amazing way.
Mordecai served faithfully near the palace gates, where he once overheard two guards planning to harm the king. Mordecai reported the danger and saved the king’s life, showing that he was loyal and honest even in a foreign land.
But Mordecai is best known for standing up to Haman, an official who demanded everyone bow to him. Mordecai refused—not because he wanted trouble, but because he would only bow to God. Haman became furious and made a terrible plan to destroy all the Jewish people.
When Mordecai learned about the threat, he turned to Esther. He urged her to speak to the king, telling her, “Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Mordecai believed that God had placed Esther exactly where she needed to be. His faith and courage helped set God’s rescue plan in motion.
After Haman’s downfall, Mordecai was honored by the king and given a high position to help protect his people. His wisdom and humility brought safety and peace to the nation.
Mordecai teaches kids that doing what is right, even when it’s hard, makes a real difference. He shows how standing for truth, helping others, and trusting God can change the course of a whole community.
Mordecai represents courage, wisdom, and faithful leadership. When kids hear his story they learn that doing the right thing—even quietly—has powerful results in every battle.
