Bible Setting: 2 Kings 21; 2 Chronicles 33
Manasseh was the son of King Hezekiah, one of Judah’s best kings. But when Manasseh became king, he made very different choices. Instead of following God, he led the people into idol worship. He built altars to false gods, set up idols in God’s temple, and even practiced sorcery.
His choices hurt the whole nation and pulled people away from the truth.
For many years, Manasseh refused to listen to God’s warnings. Prophets tried to help him, but he ignored them. Eventually, God allowed the Assyrian army to capture him. They put a hook in his nose, chained him up, and carried him away to Babylon. For the first time, Manasseh realized how far he had fallen.
In his suffering, Manasseh did something he had never done before: he prayed. He humbled himself and asked God for forgiveness. And even after all his wrong choices, God heard his prayer. God restored Manasseh to his throne in Jerusalem. Once he returned, Manasseh worked to undo the damage he had caused. He removed idols, repaired the temple, and encouraged the people to worship God again.
Manasseh teaches kids that no one is too far gone for God’s forgiveness. Even when we make big mistakes, God is ready to give us a second chance when we turn back to Him with a humble heart.
In The Good Fight card game, Manasseh represents repentance and restoration. When kids encounter his card, they learn that turning back to God brings healing, hope, and a fresh start—no matter the past.
