Bible Setting: Malachi 1–4
Malachi lived after the Jewish people had returned from exile and rebuilt the temple. Life in Jerusalem was better than before, but the people’s hearts had grown tired and careless. They were going through the motions of worship without really loving or honoring God. Priests weren’t teaching the truth, families weren’t treating each other kindly, and many people doubted whether obeying God even mattered.
God sent Malachi with a message to wake the people up. Through Malachi, God asked honest questions:“Why do you offer me your leftovers?”“Why do you break your promises?”“Why do you stop trusting Me?”
Malachi reminded them that God deserved their best—not weak offerings, not half-hearted worship, and not selfish living. He told the people that God loved them and wanted a real relationship with them. Malachi also pointed forward to the future. He said God would one day send a messenger—later revealed to be John the Baptist—to prepare the way for the Messiah.
Malachi’s message was both a warning and a promise. He called people to return to God with sincere hearts, and he encouraged them with hope: God sees, God cares, and God will come to rescue His people.
Malachi teaches kids that God wants our whole hearts, not just our actions. He shows that staying faithful, being honest, and giving our best honor God and bring joy to our lives.
Malachi represents renewal and wholehearted devotion. When kids hear his story, they learn that choosing to follow God with sincerity brings clarity, strength, and blessing.
