Bible Setting: 1 Samuel 13–20; 2 Samuel 1
Jonathan was the son of King Saul, which meant he was the prince of Israel—the one everyone expected to become king someday. But Jonathan didn’t care about fame or power. He cared about doing what was right and following God with a brave heart.
Jonathan was an incredible warrior. Once, he and his armor-bearer faced a huge Philistine outpost all by themselves. Jonathan said, “Nothing can stop the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few!” With God’s help, they won the battle and encouraged all of Israel to be brave.
But Jonathan is remembered most for his friendship with David. Even though David was chosen by God to be the next king, Jonathan wasn’t jealous. Instead, he loved David like a brother. He gave David his own royal robe, armor, and weapons to show his support. When Saul grew angry and tried to harm David, Jonathan protected him, warned him, and stayed loyal even though it was risky.
Jonathan teaches kids the meaning of true friendship—being kind, loyal, encouraging, and willing to help others do what God wants, even when it’s hard. He shows that real heroes aren’t just strong—they’re trustworthy.
In The Good Fight card game, Jonathan represents loyalty and courage. When kids play his card, they learn that standing by your friends, cheering for their success, and doing what is right brings victory in both the game and in life.
