Scripture Setting: 2 Nephi 2; 2 Nephi 9; Jacob 1–7
Jacob was born in the wilderness, long after his family had left Jerusalem behind. He never knew a comfortable home or a peaceful city. His earliest memories were likely of tents, hunger, travel, and the rising tension between his older brothers. Because of this, Jacob grew up with a tender heart—one shaped by hardship and softened by the Spirit.
Nephi loved him deeply and taught him the things of God from a young age. The Lord blessed Jacob with a powerful calling: to teach the Nephites about the Atonement, the resurrection, repentance, and the deep mercy of the Savior who would one day come. His sermons in 2 Nephi and the Book of Jacob are among the most heartfelt in scripture.
But Jacob’s life wasn’t easy. He saw his people fall into pride. He watched families break apart through sin. He felt the weight of responsibility as he warned, pleaded, and taught with love. His words show a man who understood both suffering and hope—and who used his pain to lift others.
For families today, Jacob’s writings remind us that faith grows stronger through trials and compassion.

In Rumors of War, the Jacob card embodies spiritual depth. Drawing him gives players a sense of wisdom, mercy, and the courage to stand for truth even when hearts are heavy.
