Bible Setting: Haggai 1–2
Haggai lived after the Jewish people returned from exile in Babylon. When they first came home, they started rebuilding God’s temple in Jerusalem—the special place where they worshiped and remembered God’s presence. But after a while, the people got distracted. They focused on fixing up their own homes and improving their lives, and the temple was left half-finished.
God sent Haggai with a clear message: “Think about your ways.” The people were working hard, but nothing seemed to go right. Their harvests were small, their money didn’t stretch far, and they felt discouraged. Haggai explained that this was happening because they had forgotten to put God first.
The people listened. They stopped making excuses, gathered their tools, and went back to rebuilding the temple. And God encouraged them with a beautiful promise:“I am with you.”God also told them that the new temple would be filled with even greater glory because He would bring peace to His people.
Haggai teaches kids that putting God first brings blessing, focus, and joy. When we give God our best—our time, our obedience, and our hearts—He helps the rest of our lives fall into place.
Haggai represents renewed purpose and faithful obedience. When kids hear his story, they learn that making God their priority strengthens them in every battle.
