Bible Setting: Judges 6–8
Gideon lived during a time when the Israelites were afraid. Their enemies, the Midianites, kept stealing their crops and animals, making life very hard. Gideon didn’t think of himself as a hero. In fact, when we first meet him, he’s hiding in a winepress just to thresh some wheat without being seen.
But God saw something in Gideon that he didn’t see in himself. An angel appeared and called him a “mighty warrior.” Gideon was surprised—he felt too small and too weak. But God promised to be with him.
To help Gideon trust Him, God gave small signs, like making dew appear only on Gideon’s fleece and not on the ground. When Gideon finally gathered an army, God said it was too big. He had Gideon reduce the men to just 300 soldiers, so everyone would know the victory came from God, not human strength.
With trumpets, torches, and faith, Gideon and his tiny army scared away the Midianites and won the battle without even using swords. God proved that He can use anyone—no matter how unsure they feel—to do great things.
Gideon teaches kids that God makes us strong in ways we don’t expect. Even when we feel small, scared, or not good enough, God can turn us into heroes.
In The Good Fight card game, Gideon represents courage born from faith. When kids play his card, they learn that trusting God—even when they feel outmatched—brings victory in life’s battles.
