Bible Setting: 1 Samuel 16–31; 2 Samuel 1–24; Psalms
David’s story begins when he was just a young shepherd boy living in Bethlehem. While his older brothers were strong warriors, David spent his days caring for sheep, playing music, and talking with God.
When the prophet Samuel visited David’s family to anoint the next king, everyone assumed it would be one of the older sons. But God told Samuel something special: “People look at the outside, but God looks at the heart.”
David had a heart full of faith.
One of David’s most famous moments came when he faced Goliath, a giant warrior who terrified the Israelite army. David didn’t wear armor or carry a sword. He came with a sling, five stones, and complete trust in God. With one stone, he defeated Goliath and saved Israel.
David later became a great leader, a brave warrior, and a man who wrote beautiful psalms of worship. But David wasn’t perfect—he made mistakes, sometimes big ones. When he sinned, David didn’t make excuses. He prayed for forgiveness, asking God to clean his heart and help him change. Because of his honesty and repentance, the Bible calls him “a man after God’s own heart.”
David teaches kids that God can use anyone, no matter how young or small they feel. He shows that real bravery comes from trusting God, and real strength comes from a heart willing to say sorry and start again.
In The Good Fight card game, David represents faith-filled courage and a heart that seeks God. When kids play his card, they learn that trusting God in every situation—even the scary ones—brings true victory.
