BELSHAZZAR — The King Who Ignored God’s Warning

Bible Setting: Daniel 5

Belshazzar was a king of Babylon long after Nebuchadnezzar. He lived in a beautiful palace surrounded by wealth, power, and luxury. But unlike Daniel—who honored God—Belshazzar lived with pride, disrespect, and no fear of the Lord. One night, he held a huge feast for a thousand guests. During the party, he ordered that the holy cups taken from God’s temple in Jerusalem be brought in so that he and his friends could drink from them. This was a serious act of disrespect toward God.

While everyone celebrated, something terrifying happened. A mysterious hand appeared and wrote words on the wall of the palace. No one could read the message. Belshazzar was so frightened that his knees shook! Finally, the queen reminded him about Daniel, the wise man who served God and could explain mysteries.

Daniel explained that the writing was a message from God. It said that Belshazzar’s kingdom had been weighed, judged, and would be taken away because he had not honored the God who gave him breath. That very night, Babylon fell to the Persians, and Belshazzar’s rule came to an end—just as God had said.

Belshazzar teaches kids that God is holy, and we must treat Him with respect and humility. Ignoring God’s warnings or treating sacred things lightly can lead to serious consequences. God sees everything and calls us to live with honor and wisdom.

Belshazzar represents disrespect and pride. When kids hear his story, they learn that honoring God brings protection, but ignoring Him leads to defeat.
