Bible Setting: Amos 1–9
Amos wasn’t a priest or a famous leader. He was a simple shepherd from the small town of Tekoa. But God called him to deliver a big message to the people of Israel during a time when everything looked perfect on the outside—beautiful homes, wealthy leaders, and busy marketplaces. But on the inside, the nation was full of injustice, dishonesty, and selfishness.
The rich were cheating the poor. Judges were accepting bribes. People were pretending to worship God while living however they pleased.
God sent Amos to speak the truth:
“Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a mighty stream!”
Amos warned that God was tired of fake worship. He didn’t want just songs or sacrifices—He wanted His people to treat each other with fairness and kindness. Amos reminded them that God sees how we act when no one is watching and how we treat people who can’t repay us.
Even though Amos shared difficult warnings, he also offered hope. He said that God would one day restore His people, rebuild what was broken, and plant them securely in their land once again. God’s justice is strong, but His love is even stronger.
Amos teaches kids that doing what is right matters to God. It means telling the truth, helping those who need it, and being fair and kind in every situation. God cares more about our hearts than how things look on the outside.
Amos represents justice, honesty, and standing up for what’s right. When kids hear his words, they learn that fairness and kindness are powerful weapons in every battle.
