Bible Setting: 2 Samuel 13–19
Absalom was one of King David’s sons, known for his striking appearance and his long, beautiful hair. He was brave, popular, and admired by the people of Israel. But inside, Absalom struggled with something dangerous: pride and anger.
When a terrible wrong was done to his sister Tamar, Absalom became filled with hate and hurt. Instead of seeking wisdom or forgiveness, he held onto his anger for years. This anger eventually led him to make a heartbreaking choice—he plotted against his own family. Absalom gained followers, spread rumors, and tried to take the throne from his father, King David.
David still loved Absalom deeply, even when Absalom turned against him. But Absalom’s rebellion brought trouble and pain to the whole kingdom. In the final battle, Absalom’s long hair got caught in a tree as he fled. He was left hanging helplessly, and the battle ended in tragedy.
Absalom teaches kids that anger and pride can twist our hearts if we don’t deal with them. Holding onto bitterness only leads to hurt. His story shows the importance of forgiveness, listening to wise guidance, and guarding our hearts from jealousy and revenge.
In The Good Fight card game, Absalom represents the battle between ego and humility. When kids encounter his card, they learn that wisdom, kindness, and a humble heart help them win—not just in the game, but in real life too.
